Clearly, the Bangladesh government’s campaign against Professor Yunus is not happening in a vacuum. Most recently, Human Rights Watch has released an 82-page report on “enforced disappearances” in Bangladesh.
This report and the government’s response were covered by the Daily Star, Bangladesh’s leading English-language daily, in this article. It is good to see the Bangladeshi press picking up stories like these.
The article notes, “Instead of committing to investigate these incidents, [Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman] Khan declared his government will ‘reject the report outright,’ the New York-based human rights body said in a release yesterday.”
